Further Royal Academy Gig Success for MILLER ROMANO & CLIVE

Royal Academy Gig Success: MILLER ROMANO & CLIVE have done it again! Hot on the heels of their previous RA gig, as part of the RA’s exclusive Dennis Hopper Exhibition event, MILLER ROMANO and CLIVE wowed an audience of special guests attending a special event this time celebrating the work of seminal Pop-Art sculptor and artist Allen Jones.

Mossy

Honoured to be invited back to perform once again, the band performed an eclectic blues-orientated set, blending contemporary originals taken from Greg Miller’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming debut album, along with other timeless but seemingly wholly relevant 60’s songs. A very informal and intimate, ‘pop-up’ style experience followed, seeing the band and audience interacting in a way which perhaps echoed similar spontaneous gatherings so often read about from the sixties; a time of significant change and upheaval with many parallels to our own present socio-political landscape.

Certainly the songs chosen reflected contemporary troubled times, much as they did when they were first written and given harmonica player MILLER is himself French, his duet with CLIVE on the French classic “La Javaniase” had a particular resonance not lost on their audience. But far from being melancholy or an obvious reference to recent tragic events in Paris, MILLER ROMANO & CLIVE performed the song with both confidence and humour – thus celebrating art in the face of attacks on freedom of artistic expression.

After two sets the band were pleasantly surprised and humbled by the sheer volume of audience members who took the time to come thank them and share their enthusiasm with the band post-gig; this further confirmed when half the audience followed the band to the pub afterwards! Suffice to say by accounts, a good night was had by all…long may they continue.

A very Special thank you from the band goes out to The RA, the sound engineer and staff who so beautifully enabled the band by making them feel so at home. Truly an honour…here’s to more!

And thus more art gets made 😉
